Come! Create herbal remedies with locally grown plants. 

Make salves, syrups, tea blends, tinctures, tonics and more.

​

Each class is creatively aligned with the seasonal unfolding of the earth ~ touching on botany, herbal energetics, hands-on herbal crafting, and tuning into our innate wisdom and reflective capacities.  

 

Held the final Saturday of the month from 2:00-4:30  (see individual dates below)

$45 per class or $275 for full series  (7 Classes)

Infused Herbal Salves & Edible Spring Treats

April 27 @ Tonic 2-4:30 (CLASS IS FULL)

Violet (Violacea spp.), Plantain (Plantago spp.), Dandelion (Taraxacum spp.) & Chickweed (Stellaria media)

Participants will gain familiarity with chickweed, plantain, violet and dandelion,  exploring the various ways they lend themselves to nourishing food and medicine.

Together, we will prepare Violet Massage Oil and Green Garden Salve with Violet, Comfrey, Plantain & Lavender and share some Dandelion, Violet, Chickweed & Pesto before closing with a tea circle.

Nourishing Nettles!

May 25 @ Tonic 2-4:30

Nettles (Urtica dioica), Red Clover (Trifolium pratense), Oat Straw (Avena sativa

Learn how to prepare nourishing infusions and varying benefits and choices of plants that lend themselves to these long infusions.  We will prepare a mineral rich vinegar together that you can take home to strain at a later date and use through the summer months.  We’ll also explore Nettles as food!  A rich and nourishing class.

Plant Walk ~ Basic Botany, ID & Wild Edibles

June 22 @ Ferry Hill 1-4  (date may reflect weather patterns)

We will meet at the Ferry Hill Visitors and follow the trail along the limestone ridge above the Potomac River, looping down to connect with the C & O canal for less then a mile and returning to Ferry Hill, tuning into botanical terms  and patterns to develop a relationship the plant species. 

Botany in a Day & Newcomb's Wildflower Guide will be referenced as a guide to using plant families and keys to identify individfual plants

 

Infused Herbal Oils ~  Facial Serums & Salves

July 27 @ Tonic 2- 4:30

Rose (Rosa spp.), Calendula  (Calendula resina) & St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum)

We will greet Rose, Calendula and St. John’s Wort, and interact with them through preparation of infused oils for skin care & restoration of injury for skin care, facial serums and salves.

August 31 @ Tonic 2- 4:30

Making Herbal syrups 

Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) & Rose (Rosa spp.)

Together, we will make an elderberry rosehip syrup  for immune support and take a bottle home.  We will also sample herbal syrups to add flavor and health to sparkling drinks ~  raspberry rose & lemon elderflower ~

Herbal & Mushroom Broth Blends 

Oct 26 @ Tonic 2-4:30

Astragalus (Astragalus propinquus),  Shitake (Lentinula edodes), Burdock (Arctium lappa), Nettle (Urtica dioica), Calendula (Calendula officinalis) and many more…

We will collectively meet and explore plants and mushrooms that lend themselves well to long infusions to be incorporated into broths, soups and stews as we enter autumn.  We will touch mushroom identification and resources, looking closely. Everyone will blend and spice their own muslin herbal broth bags to take home.

Locally grown Incense & Smoke Bundles

November 30 @ Tonic 2-4:30

Together we will make herbal burn bundles and incense cones from locally grown and harvested plants.  White sage and palo santo are commonly sold, as they are wonderful plants that release a lovely fragrance, but suffer from overharvesting.  There are many plants that can be used as incense that you can grow or selectively harvest from the surrounding area, while alleviating the pressure on overharvested plants.

Join us for creative community crafting and  take home gifts to enter the winter dream time.
